About the Choirs

Vocal AccordEstablished in 2022, Vocal Accord (formerly the Sherwood Community Chamber Ensemble) is a select group of 14 singers from the Chamber Choir. This ensemble specializes in small-group choral repertoire, bringing a unique and intimate musical experience to audiences.

The Sherwood High School Chamber Singers: Led by director Emily Chu, this auditioned choir meets in class daily on a repertoire of chamber and global musical pieces. Emily Chu began as the choral and general music teacher at Sherwood High School this fall. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a dual degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance. Following graduation, she was the general music teacher at Burtonsville Elementary School. She also directs and conducts two choirs at Glorystar Children’s Chorus in Potomac MD.

Sherwood Community Chamber Choir (SCCC): Founded in 2014 by William Evans, SCCC is a volunteer auditioned choir of approximately 60 singers. Under the direction of Evans—who taught choral music at Sherwood High School for 37 years—SCCC strives to enrich the community through inspiring choral performances. Assistant Music Director Kenny Phillips provides additional leadership and support.

The Sherwood Forest Singers: This band of traveling troubadours made their debut this fall at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. The 17-person ensemble consists of members of the larger Chamber Choir that share a collective love of the Maryland Renaissance Festival and choral singing. Their current repertoire consists of multiple-part acapella pieces, including but not limited to classical and contemporary Chamber, Sea Shanty, Shaker, and Spiritual music.
